I wanted to share a portrait of me by artist Hugh Langis.
Hugh runs the Posterous account “Oh Dear It’s Your Face” and I requested that he put my mug on it.
I love how delicate Hugh’s art is and the detail he uses. I expected something really neat, and that’s certainly what I got.
What I didn’t expect was that the picture would capture some 500 views in just four days.
I have no doubt that Hugh’s talent attracted this attention, but I also wonder if the nature of the Posterous platform is also garnering eyeballs. Part of the reason why I love these lightweight services is that they make content instantly accessible. To read the things that interest me, all I have to do is sign in. The personalized element and the way information is contained makes keeping up with the latest inspirations that much easier.
I applaud news services that have caught on to this idea already. Abcnewsradio is one. I also even agree with John Mayer when he said this:
“I love reading other Tumblr users replies, because they’re thoughtful by virtue of the fact that if they’re not, they’ll bring the intellectual property value of their own blog down, and that’s a commodity on Tumblr.”
Viva l’inspiration hotbeds.
