When I open a magazine, I expect to see ads.
When I turn on the TV, no question.
Even when I walk down the street, it is no surprise to be hit by larger-than-life billboards, or to have messages flown through the sky.
But when I get my skis waxed? No, this is too much.
The shop that stickered my skis with their logo (see above the bindings) did a great job of waxing and binding them. Had they handed me these stickers to put on myself, I may even have done it, maybe. But to have them blindly branding my skis without my permission or even my comprehension, well there I get mildly upset.
The thing is, I did not buy my skis or bindings from the shop that branded them. Therefore, any compliments I yield will be directed towards the Ski and Snowboard Show, Skiis & Bikes or Solomon itself. It somehow feels misleading.
I’d call this a case of guerrilla advertising. Now this guerrilla needs some Goo Gone.
