Stickybits

Following my last update about technology detox, I’ve now returned to Canada, and my connected world.

Hello again Internet, and a special hello to my new Tumblr friends, particularly those I met at the April Tumblr event put on by Randeep Katari. To be honest, I had been wavering on my commitment to this platform (Made You Look may be better suited to Wordpress) but the community around Tumblr is so vibrant and creative I hesitate. I can’t quit you…

In the spirit of the Made You Look mandate to discuss capturing attention in the information age, I want to share something Jon Crowley introduced to me on Twitter today.

They’re called Stickybits - sort of like digital Post-its - where you can attach information (pics, text, music, etc.) to stickers through a bar code. You can personalize these or put them anywhere and get notified when they’ve been scanned or relocated.

I see in Stickybits the same fun things I see in you, Tumblr, and that’s possibility and fun times. The Stickybits experience seems like geocaching 2.0, and a way to connect strangers to an online world, kind of like how Joy Apparel did.

Looking forward to seeing these around, and I invite you to stick it to me if you have any Stickybits.
