I saw this iPad ad on Adelaide in Toronto, and thought it was a really innovative concept in all its simplicity.
If you look closely at it, the graphic is actually painted directly onto the wall. Similar ads come up on buildings in the city all the time, but it wasn’t until I got up close to see the granular texture of the wall that I realized its brilliance.
To praise the ad itself - as I am not an iPad owner so I can’t personally speak to its efficacy - I think this painted approach is truly innovative.
Consider: the process itself takes days and/or weeks, and locals can watch the stages of completion with interest. The means to make the ad is almost more engaging than end result. I would argue I’m more apt to pay attention to a large ad like this if it has a different placement approach.
Another consideration, I wonder if Apple had locals complete this? Any chance taken to support local artists is good.
